The village that gave America its first rotary
Here's a bit of trivia for your next dinner party: the first traffic rotary in the United States was built in South Yarmouth, where River Street meets Pleasant Street. The village is also home to a long string of town beaches, including Smuggler's Beach, which used to be called Bass River Beach, along with Parkers River, Seaview, South Middle, Wilbur Park and Windmill Beach, named for the historic windmill there.
With the Bass River on one side and Nantucket Sound to the south, plenty of South Yarmouth yards sit near water, marsh or both. Those lawns tend to have sandy soil, a steady breeze and a short list of real needs: regular mowing at a decent height, tidy beds, and a fall cleanup before the leaves pile up.

South Yarmouth questions
What homeowners ask us
My lawn near the river goes brown every summer. What can I do?
Sandy soil near the water drains fast, so shallow roots dry out quickly. Raising the mowing height, watering deeply once or twice a week instead of a little every day, and overseeding with tougher grasses in early fall usually make a big difference.
Do you do one-time cleanups?
Yes. A spring cleanup, clearing storm debris or getting an overgrown yard back under control are all common one-time jobs, and ongoing maintenance is there afterward if you want it.
Should I bag my grass clippings?
Usually not. Short clippings left on the lawn break down fast and feed the soil. The exception is a very long cut, where heavy clumps can smother the grass underneath.
